Following graduation from college in 1968 I married Jim Tomlin (BCC class of 1963) and began a series of moves to various posts around the country until Jim's retirement from the Army in 1988.  Having settled in Northern Virginia in 1984 we decided to remain in the area.  I recently retired from Fairfax County where I worked for the Board of Supervisors.  Both of our daughters live in Virginia so we have no plans to relocate.  Years ago we purchased a small farm in the Shenandoah Valley that we continue to enjoy as a get-a-away from the DC area.  We have six grandchildren, all of whom enjoy outings to the farm, as well as our annual beach trips.   Send Sally a MessageSend Sally a Message

After Whitman and two years at DePauw University, I joined the Navy and spent 13 years in various ships and duty stations.  Since then, I have been (at various times) a travelling road musician, a baseball correspondent, a television director and a radio announcer.  Moved to New Bern, North Carolina in 2003 for retirement and enjoyment and haven't been disappointed. Thank each and every one of you who have helped with putting this site and reunion together.  You did a fabulous job.  Much appreciated.   Remember all of you with great fondness, miss you.  Wish I could be with you, but transportation is a problem, sending hugs. Would like to purchase memory book.

Foremost is my love for Jesus Christ.

I attended Bloomsburg State Teacher’s College in Pennsylvania, following that  I worked at Navy Ordinance Station, Indian Head Maryland making bombs.  While working in Accounting at Navy Security Station,  in DC I met my husband Ronal Keller.  We were wed at the Navy Chapel.  When Ron got out of the Navy we came to Central/Southern Illinois.  We have 2 children Sandy & Kevin and 10 grandchildren.  I have also had various jobs from City Recreation Director, Welcome Wagon Hostess,  Secretary at Lake Land College,  Fields Operations Assistant for the US Census,  Manager Hickory Farms Kiosk, Drug Store Clerk,  Survey Research University of Illinois. I enjoy scrapbooking, making cards, reading, knitting, crocheting, and embroidery. I have just completed a 4 yr work of love for my grandchildren about the adventures while my parents & I lived in Homer, Alaska, (before Alaska was a State), including most of my mother’s slides.  I’m also a voluntary Ombudsman.

After I graduated from Walt Whitman, received a degree from Iowa State University - and by the way, realized that WW was exemplary training for college!  Career as a federal employee for the Social Security Administration in San Francisco.

Thirty years after Walt Whitman, discovered the whereabout of Dick Patton - the guy who took me to the senior prom as a blind date (remember this, Steve Rosenthal??).  We fell in love all over again and I moved to Maryland to be with Dick and eventually to get married.

After we retired, we left Maryland and moved to a ten-acre ranch in the foothills of the Sierra Mountains in Calfornia.  Beautiful country, lots of wineries, old gold mines!  Small town life is great and San Francisco is only two hours away.   Plus we have a silly little Bichon who's the love of our life.  What's not to like!

Jane Foster (Hill)
Botanist Married yes

For the past 42 years, I have lived with my husband, Bill, in the same house, which is only about a mile from Walt Whitman High School.  So you can see how far I’ve strayed!

I did go off to Minnesota for college, majoring in English.  Then I came back to this area and worked as a writer and editor for the US Department of Agriculture, where I became interested in plants and ecology.  That prompted me to go on to graduate school and study biology and botany, eventually earning a Ph.D. in botany.  I then combined my love of writing with my interest in biological subjects and wrote extensively in these areas.  Some of my writing was academic, including two books, one as co-author (on tree structure, function, and development) and the other as translator and analyst of an 1804 French book on early research on photosynthesis.  Other writing was more popularly oriented, some of it centered on an avid interest I developed in birds in about 1990.  My main focus at present is conservation of habitat for native plants and animals, and I am active in the Maryland Native Plant Society.

In the past two or three years, I have had the very good fortune to reconnect with a number of our classmates, some of them friends dating back to Clara Barton Elementary School days.  I treasure these connections, and look forward to seeing many more old friends at the reunion.

After graduation from college and ROTC, I spent 6 years flying in the USAF.  Met my wife in Sacramento during that time, and we just celebrated our 45th Wedding Anniversary.  We have lived in Minnesota for 41 years.  We have three children, two daughters that live near us, and one son living in North Carolina.  Donna and I have 7 grandchildren.  Although now retired, I keep busy enjoying my kids and grandkids, sailing, and fabricating cabinetry for clients.

Thanks to all that have organized this reunion and website.  Best wishes for a successful and fun reunion.

Marina owner/partner/manager www.wilmingtonmarine.com Married yes
Following Whitman and Colorado State University, I sailed the Caribbean with brother Bill for several years.  Met a beautiful mermaid, Kit, in St. Croix in 1972.  In 1974, we married in Charlottesville, Va., and we're still happily married after 40 years.

The day after we married, we moved to Wrightsville Beach, NC.  There we built a 32' saillboat, moved aboard, and sailed to the Caribbean, Europe, Africa and back to St. Croix.    We lived and worked in the U.S. and British Virgin Islands until I was 40, then moved to Bald Head Island, NC.   In 1987, with friends and brother Bill, bought a 40-acre waterfront site on the Cape Fear River in Wilmington, NC, which I have developed and managed ever since.

For many years I was an active triathlete, sailboat delivery captain/crew, and modeler.   Currently I  enjoy all boating and especially long-distance sailing to warm places.  I also love bike touring, travelling, woodworking, and spending time at our house in Nevis, W.I.

I'm looking for next adventure and the 64 Whitman reunion, too.  See you there!

Graduated from Michigan in 68. After a summer in India, got drafted and sent to Vietnam. Got married. Did a masters in archaeology and went digging in Italy, working at a museum in Detroit in the winters. Got divorced. Moved to Rome in 78, supporting myself teaching English. Went to England and did another masters in linguistics, then back to Rome and 30 years of university teaching. Meanwhile, got married again, two kids, lots of camping trips in England, France, and especially Greece. I don’t get back to the States much, but we did a double coast-to-coast camping trip in 05. Kids off to college. What next, I wonder?

Adult Distance Learning Married 2 yes
50 years! I’m so grateful to the organizers of this reunion for bringing us together, and for the chance to read our stories.  After grad school in NYC, my husband and I landed at a college in upstate NY near the Adirondack mountains, where we had met as children at a family camp.  My husband came to teach, and I did a graduate psych internship and worked briefly at the local mental health clinic. I ended up at the college as well, where for over 30 years I advised and taught adult students. Great work! We enjoy the Adirondacks a lot, and our children and grandchildren in the Cambridge, MA area. That’s the barebones, with a lot behind it, as I’m sure there is with all of us!  I’m sorry I’m not likely to make the reunion to hear the fleshed out stories and all that everyone has to share. Liz and I have been happily married and have lived in the New York City area for many years.  Our 2 children and their spouses, and 4 grandchildren, live in the NY area, so we are really fortunate to see them often.  I have been at Columbia since the mid-'80's, where I run a neurobiology research laboratory and do clinical work in neuropathology.  Work is still fun and challenging - not retiring yet!  It's been really fun browsing through our Schoolmates website and seeing what everyone's been up to!  Send James a MessageSend James a Message
